InfoComm Dedicates New Education Center

Last week, InfoComm International® staff and the InfoComm Board of Directors gathered in Fairfax, Va., to formally dedicate the association's new training facility to retiring Executive Director and CEO Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D. (pictured, right). "It is the feeling of the InfoComm Board of Directors that a room that is so extraordinary needs a name that reflects its greatness. And who has done more to train, certify and foster volunteerism in the industry than our own Randy Lemke?" said InfoComm President Greg Jeffreys (left). "Therefore it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the Dr. Randal A. Lemke Center for Professional Development."

See photos from the dedication.

Meeting AV Takes Cues From Theater, Broadcast, Science

By Dan Daley, Special to InfoComm International

Hotels and other venues are beginning to enjoy a resurgence of meetings, conferences and other events, but clients don't want pre-recession AV for their presentations. Pipes and drapes don't cut it anymore. Try video mapping and line arrays. "You can get far more out of video mapping than you ever could from a static set," says one AV professional. Read what else today's meeting planners are looking for.

Impressions of GovComm 2012

Having had their fill of Thanksgiving turkey, government technology managers and AV professionals converged on the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., for GovComm 2012, held in association with Government Video Expo, the Enterprise Architecture Conference, and the Government Information and Analytics Summit. Any guesses how many times "fiscal cliff" was mentioned? Here's one person's perspective on the successful event.

Do You Fear What I Fear?

Holidays should be a time of joy. But at the InfoComm All Voices Blog, the holidays are tinged with anxiety. Government Relations Director Betsy Jaffe explains why.

Your Company Can Make a Difference for Veterans

Embrace the holiday spirit by helping U.S. veterans start careers in the AV industry. Your company can sponsor scholarships for veterans to take part in AV Heroes, InfoComm University™'s six-week program that ends with the CTS exam. Explore sponsorship opportunities with Patrick Giambalvo, 1.800.659.7469.

Special thanks to Attero Tech, the newest AV Heroes sponsor.

 InfoComm Standards Development Goes West

InfoComm's Audio Systems Spectral Balance Task Group travelled to Northern California to continue work on the pending standard. Volunteers and staff took a tour of Meyer Sound, Fox Theater, Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, and TRI Studios. See photos of them at work.

 British AV Firms Merge

U.K. audiovisual companies AVM and Impact announced they merged their operations. AVM Impact will be the U.K.'s largest provider of audiovisual and videoconferencing solutions, according to a statement. "AVM Impact will benefit customers by combining each company's strengths and by taking advantage of economies of scale that have not yet been seen in the U.K. audiovisual market," said Edward Cook (pictured), CEO of AVM Impact. "We trust that all customers will enjoy the resulting and unparalleled pool of both offsite and onsite AV service engineers and benefit from the merged entity's superior purchasing power. AVM's existing customers will gain access to Impact's market-leading facilities management software solutions while Impact's existing customers will gain access to AVM's True Collaboration meeting-space solutions and AVM's creative services for digital signage."

AVM Impact will be headquartered in Sunbury, Middlesex, with additional offices throughout the U.K.
