Giving Back During AV Month

What did you do for AV Month in October? Applied Global Technologies (AGT) partnered with a group in its home state of Georgia to help provide vision and hearing care to underserved citizens. AGT is working with the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation on its eyeglass recycling program, and employees plan to volunteer with the foundation on an ongoing basis. "To have an organization, such as Applied Global Technologies, so passionately committed to bettering the industry of sight and sound is incredible," says Roberta Greene, the foundation’s executive director.  Back to School

Students in the AV Executive Conference Master’s Program answered the bell at InfoComm headquarters last week. The in-person session was the starting point of a nine-month schedule that will engage participants in live and online seminars, led by business and strategy experts from the September AVEC in Scottsdale, Ariz. Throughout the program, AV executives will hammer out effective value propositions and business models, with one-on-one guidance and coaching from experts. Learn what they’re learning.

 Back to School, Part 2

Don't miss the final InfoComm on Campus of 2014, Dec. 9 at the University of Southern California Davidson Conference Center. Spend a full day exploring future trends in AV for higher education, hearing about USC's approach to learning environments, and networking with like-minded professionals as you explore new technology solutions.

Andrew Milne, Ph.D., CEO of Tidebreak, will discuss exceptional experiences in classroom AV, and the day wraps up with a tour of USC’s facilities. All attendees will have a chance to win a free edition of Adobe Creative Cloud. Find out more about the agenda and register today.

 Step Up to CTS

Ben Lizzotte, CTS

Whether you're new to the AV industry or you're an experienced professional, you may prefer to build a bridge to the Certified Technology Specialist™ (CTS®) credential. InfoComm members can earn the InfoComm-Recognized AV Technologist Certificate free by taking a 100-question test that verifies you have the basic level of technical knowledge needed to work toward your certification goals.

Plus, because the test is based on the popular course, Essentials of AV Technology, you may already be prepared to take the test today.

"I would definitely say the AV Technologist test was a stepping stone toward earning my CTS and was in fact the beginning of my preparation," says Ben Lizzotte, CTS, senior AV analyst at Bates College.

Earn Your CTS at Integrated Systems Europe

Jarrett Dartnall, CTS

Heed the advice of Jarrett Dartnall, CTS, senior engineer at Pyramid, who was the first person to pass the CTS exam at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2014 in Amsterdam. Dartnall said it was great to combine the exam with the show because after his test, he was able to relax as he explored all the new technology. "I decided to earn my CTS because more and more of our clients are requesting it to be part of our company portfolio," he said.

InfoComm International will be offering CTS, CTS-D and CTS-I exams at ISE 2015 in Amsterdam, 10-12 Feb. 2015. Save your exam seat today.

 Be Exceptional. Tell the World.

Do you have a compelling AV case study you'd like people to know about? InfoComm is looking for a few exceptional AV experiences to share with the AV industry and beyond.

Have you employed InfoComm standards? Did you design or integrate an AV system that exceeded your client's expectations? InfoComm would love to hear what you've been working on, and if we select your project, we'll write it up — you just have to tell us what made it great!

If you'd like InfoComm to profile your exceptional AV experience, send an email to exceptional@infocomm.org. Give us a few details, like what the project was, the AV solutions involved and where it was installed. We'll look over all the submissions and select a variety. But we can't choose yours unless you tell us about it. Email details to exceptional@infocomm.org.

Networking Problems? We Help Solve Them

George Brosie, CTS-D

Whether your background is in AV or IT, communicating can be a challenge when AV devices ride the network. InfoComm University™ wants you to succeed in networking technology by learning it from the AV perspective with Networked AV Systems, Jan. 21-23, 2015, at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. After taking this course, you'll have a thorough understanding of networking technology and tools, which will ultimately save your time, money and stress.

"Any AV technical person without IT training who works with IT should take this course," says George Brosie, CTS®-D, vice president of design and integration at Innovative Technology Group.

 Making AV Connections

The inaugural InfoComm Connections will be held March 4-5, 2015, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. It's part of a new series of regional conferences and trade shows where tech managers and in-house AV pros can get training and connect with vendors.

Enjoy education sessions from InfoComm University, IMCCA and NewBay Media, focused on unified communications and collaboration, AV for higher education and more. InfoComm Connections will also feature Manufacturers' Training and the new InfoComm University CTS Testing Drill, a one-day course to prepare for the CTS Exam. Which is super convenient because the nearest testing center is just a few miles from the convention center. Learn more.

 Save the Date: AVEC 2015

The AV Executive Conference returns to Florida's Amelia Island next fall. AVEC 2015 will be held Nov. 18-20 and feature in-depth insight on issues of business management and fresh opportunities to network with high-level AV professionals facing the same challenges you face in your day-to-day business.
