On the Government Relations Front
In a May 18 letter signed by 56 members of Congress, the General Services Administration (GSA) was asked to stop using the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system if the USGBC does not reconsider certain provisions of LEED 2012. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system is a prominent program in the field of sustainable building and one which the GSA has adopted to help government buildings comply with the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act. According to the letter, the 56 signees are concerned that the latest version of LEED “will eliminate the use of dozens of materials and hundreds of proven building products.” Read the entire letter [PDF]. InfoComm Sustainability Officer Allen Weidman also offers some background based on a recent Congressional hearing.
