♦ Baumgratz Becomes First CTS-D in South America Congratulations to Nelson Baumgratz of EAV-Engenharia AudioVisual for becoming South America's first CTS-D. Nelson has spent more than 30 years in AV related industries, ranging from transmitter design and manufacturing to IT consulting and systems design. He was Chief AV Engineer for ON Projecoes (a CAVSP Gold and Silver company) for three years, leading several award-winning projects including a training and educational program for the company. Nelson currently runs and owns an AV engineering design company in Brazil, along with two fellow CTS professionals, developing and performing AV designs, installations and maintenance. In addition, his company is developing technical training material for custom in-company training. He has been a member of InfoComm Academy's faculty since 2008. InfoComm expects more AV professionals in South America to achieve advanced certification as both the CTS-D and CTS-I are available in testing centers around the world. The CTS exam will also be available in Spanish in the near future. ♦ Bold Prediction: AV Wins 2008 Election in a Landslide The official votes have not been tallied but early predictions show AV playing a pivotal role in communicating complex polling and statistics to a wide audience. To help clarify the data and engage the viewers in its dissection, networks and cable news shows largely have put away their dry erase boards (the late Tim Russert's resides in a museum) in favor of AV equipment. The large touchscreen panels have even reached a critical barometer of cultural awareness — being lampooned on Saturday Night Live. <more> ♦ Bocchiaro Wins 2008 World Standards Day Paper Competition Congratulations to InfoComm Director of Performance Standards Joseph Bocchiaro III, Ph.D., CTS-D, CTS-I, for taking top prize at the 2008 World Standards Day Paper Competition. Joe accepted his award at a World Standards Day ceremony and dinner on October 23 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC. ♦ Design Package Components Task Force Making Progress The Design Package Components Performance Standard Task Group is making considerable progress.
