InfoComm Board Selects Next Executive Director

 


After a months-long search, the Board of Directors of InfoComm International® announced last week that David Labuskes, CTS®, RCDD, will become the next Executive Director and CEO of the association. He will succeed current Executive Director/CEO Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D, who is retiring at the end of the year. Richard Derbyshire Named Volunteer of the Year

 


Richard Derbyshire, CTS®, of Shen Milson & Wilke, has been in the industry more than 25 years. He currently serves as chairman of the InfoComm Standards Steering Committee, which oversees the work of nearly a dozen task groups and 500 industry volunteers. The Harald Thiel Volunteer of the Year Award is presented annually for contributions made to the association.

InfoComm Names Young AV, Women in AV Award Winners

 


At last week’s InfoComm 100 outside Washington, D.C., InfoComm International named Jonathan Brawn, CTS, of Brawn Consulting, and Christina Minihan, CTS, of Visix Corp. (pictured) as its Young AV Professionals Award winners. Also at the InfoComm 100, Malissa Dillman, CTS-D, CTS-I, of Kramer Electronics, and Zee Hakimoglu, CEO of ClearOne, were presented with InfoComm’s Women in AV Award.

Visualization solutions company Barco and Raymond Kent, CTS, LEED AP (pictured), took home the Sustainable AV Technology Award at last week’s InfoComm 100 conference. The award recognizes people and organizations for implementing environmentally sustainable practices in the manufacturing of products, integration of AV systems, reduction of waste in the workplace or similar strategies.  STEP Foundation Convenes Manufacturers Group
The Sustainable Technology Environments Program (STEP™) Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing sustainable practices to the process of planning, designing, integrating and operating technology systems. The STEP Manufacturers Group, which includes representatives from various industries, will record manufacturers’ best sustainability practices and champion the STEP Rating System.

 InfoComm’s Lemke Recognized for Contributions to the Industry
Last week, at a ceremony in London, InfoComm Executive Director and CEO Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., was recognized by AV Magazine with the AV40 Outstanding Contribution Award. Lemke, who was attending the InfoComm 100 outside Washington, D.C., accepted the award via video. “I count my friends at AV Magazine among life’s treasures,” he said. “As I accept this award and leave the InfoComm stage, I look with pride at InfoComm’s membership throughout the world.” Lemke, who is set to retire at the end of the year, acknowledged the contributions of Peter Lloyd, Brian Pipe, Greg Jeffreys and Terry Friesenborg, among others, in helping InfoComm meet the needs of the audiovisual industry in the U.K. and Europe.

 In Memoriam

Herbert M. Jaffe, a longtime corporate executive with Atlas Sound, died Oct. 11 in Pompton Plains, N.J. Jaffe trained in the sound business at the RCA Institute and worked for Executone and Dukane before joining Atlas Sound in 1969. “Herb's passing is an incredible loss not only for the industry, but for the audio world at large,” wrote Fred Ampel, owner of Technology Visions Analytics. “Herb was unique, someone who was there at the beginning and gave back more than anyone could ask.” Memorial donations may be made to the Jewish Council of Cedar Crest, 1 Cedar Crest Village Dr., Pompton Plains, NJ 07444, or to the Rob Jaffe Memorial Fund, c/o California State Summer School Arts Foundation, 39 East Walnut St., No. 8, Pasadena, CA 91103.

Richard F. Krudop, of Andalusia, Ala., and a friend to many in the AV business in the southeastern U.S., died Oct. 11. Over the years, Krudop’s independent manufacturers’ rep firm, Nu-Way Technologies, represented such brands as AMX, Flexible Picture Systems, Sound Craft Systems and Stewart Filmscreen. Krudop was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Andalusia High School, and a graduate of Auburn University. Memorial donations may be made to the Bellaire and Sara Frances Krudop Scholarship Fund at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, c/o Foundation Fund, P.O. Box 1418, Andalusia, AL 36420.
