Telemedicine and AV in the U.S.
Despite a wobbly economy, the U.S. healthcare sector has seen increasing demand, complete with doctor shortages and longer wait times at offices, hospitals and emergency rooms. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics at the U.S. Department of Labor, healthcare will continue to grow. The bureau expects that "the proportion of the population in older age groups will grow faster than the total population between 2008 and 2018. In addition, older persons have a higher incidence of injury and illness and often take longer to heal from maladies." More

Bocchiaro Takes Second at World Standards Day Paper Competition
InfoComm International’s Vice President of Standards and Best Practices, Joseph Bocchiaro III, Ph.D., AStd, CTS-D, CTS-I, ISF-C, won second place in this year’s World Standards Day Paper Competition. Audiovisual Technology Standards Support Accessibility: Societal Inclusion, Emergency Preparedness, and Protection from Harm, is a study of how audiovisual technology relates to the twentieth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The contest is jointly sponsored by NIST, ANSI and the SES, which will publish the paper in November.

InfoComm Hosted International Delegation from ISO Sustainability in Event Management TAG
InfoComm members are participating in the development of ISO/PC 250 Sustainability in Event Management International Standard as part of the U.S. delegation to ISO through ANSI. Janne Mummert of VER, the InfoComm mirror Committee Moderator and Chair of the Rental and Staging Council, welcomed the guests, and InfoComm members presented current audiovisual sustainability initiatives to the delegation such as the STEPSM (Sustainable Technology Environments ProgramSM) and the Audiovisual Systems Energy Management Performance Standard during a dinner for the 50 international delegates of the ISO PC 250 Sustainability in Event Management Technical Advisory Group.

AV Sustainability Task Force Continues Work on STEP
The AV Sustainability Task Force met face-to-face in Chicago on September 13-14 to continue their work on STEP. The group reviewed the entire rating system and made several modifications to both headings and descriptions. The task force also began preparation of the STEP reference guide which will accompany the rating system and will be released in January 2011.
