Steve Somers

Steve Somers is Vice President of Engineering for Extron Electronics in Anaheim, CA, a manufacturer of high performance computer video interface, processing, switching and distribution products for the professional and residential audiovisual industry. He joined Extron in 1989 and possesses more than 30 years' experience in the video industry. Somers’ involvement in Extron’s product development during the past 15 years significantly augmented the explosive growth of the company during a time of unprecedented technological advances in information display.

Prior to Extron, Somers was Manager of Research and Development for Conrac Corporation’s computer graphics monitor group. His early industry experience began in color television design support at RCA Corporation. He is a member of SID, SMPTE, and an electronics engineering graduate from Purdue University.

In addition, Somers is past-chairman of the InfoComm Projection Shoot-Out Committee and the Projection Shoot-Out event, he managed and directed its technical design and Show operations for 10 years. The Shoot-Out embodied one of the largest scale video and graphics distribution systems for high performance image presentation. In the residential design sector, Somers is chairman of CEDIA’s Home Theater Design Specialist Committee composed of subject matter experts from various disciplines focused on production of certification exams for the custom design and installation market. He regularly writes technical articles for ExtroNews and other industry trade magazines. Somers presents a variety of technical seminars for the information display market through InfoComm, NSCA and CEDIA. He is an Adjunct Faculty member of the InfoComm University.
