Performance Standards

InfoComm performance standards are fundamental design criteria and engineering principles that are used as the basis to create quality audiovisual systems.

Purpose
The purpose of InfoComm’s performance standards program is to:

  • Provide industry output standards that audiovisual professionals can build their systems to meet
  • Provide customers clear industry standards they can rely on.

Standards Development Organization (SDO)
InfoComm International is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Development Organization (SDO). Accreditation by ANSI signifies that the procedures used by the standards body in connection with the development of American National Standards meet the Institute’s essential requirements for openness, balance, consensus and due process.

Performance Standards Initiatives
The first performance standards currently under development are:

  • Audio Coverage in Enclosed Listener Areas
  • Presentation Displays Contrast Ratio

Performance Standards Committee
The ANSI standards development process involves groups that work cooperatively to develop voluntary national consensus standards. InfoComm’s Board of Governors established a Standards Committee in 2006 to start working on performance standards. Chaired by Scott Walker, CTS-D, LEED® AP of Waveguide Consulting, Inc., there are now more than 70 volunteers involved in task forces discussing various standards.

Public Review
Broad-based public review is required by ANSI. At this time, no standards are currently available for public comment. InfoComm will publicize standards for review as they become available.
