 Strategically Speaking

You've heard it discussed in various corners of professional AV: How do we attract fresh talent to our growing, vibrant industry? InfoComm International®'s Board of Directors, as part of the association's new three-year strategic plan, has made workforce development one of its priorities.

Through new and existing programs, InfoComm is committed to driving qualified hiring prospects to member companies. Its core purpose — to advance audiovisual communications globally — hasn't changed, but in promoting the benefits of a career in the AV communications industry, InfoComm believes member companies can rise to the challenges of new technology, evolving business models and demanding customers. Look for the association to promote the inclusion of AV industry information in appropriate secondary education programs and boost its development of non-traditional education opportunities. A knowledgeable, enthusiastic workforce can be the rising tide that lifts all boats.

What can you do in the short term? AV Week is Oct. 13-19, 2013. InfoComm encourages members to go out into their communities and join a job fair, give a presentation at a local high school, or hold an open house to increase awareness and share the excitement of working in the AV industry. Get more ideas from InfoComm.

Catch the Rental & Staging Roadshow in Florida

Learn Event Setup From Your Computer

You don't necessarily have to touch the equipment to learn how to set it up. Discover how to connect gear in the proper sequence for your next live event using interactive graphics. It's all part of Event Setup for AV Techs Online, one of InfoComm University's growing repertoire of in-depth online classes. Review best practices, troubleshoot common problems and watch video demonstrations — from the comfort of your home or office. Go ahead, pick a time that works for you.

 Engage With Other Great Minds

Break away from basic day-to-day "stuff" and take time to think about the big ideas and programs that can transform your business into an extraordinary enterprise. At this event, you'll be more than just an attendee — you'll be an active participant, engaging with other great minds that think alike.

Scoping Our Industry: AV, IT, or What?

Just because AV/IT convergence has happened — and just because both sides of the equation get along better — doesn't mean the pro-AV industry shouldn't be clear about its unique value proposition. Being able to articulate a defined scope has many benefits. Read about them and share your ideas at the All Voices Blog.

Last Chance to Apply for the Michael Vergauwen Scholarship

Time is running out. The Michael Vergauwen Fund supports post-secondary education for a career in the audiovisual industry and honors Michael Vergauwen's achievements and leadership of InfoComm International. The Michael Vergauwen Scholarship is a $5,000 grant for third- and fourth-year college students and graduate students who are employees of InfoComm member organizations or dependents of employees. It is administered by the International Communications Industries Foundation (ICIF).
