In 1946, the National Audio Visual Education Dealers, one of InfoComm International's predecessor organizations, hosted its first trade show in Chicago, just seven years after the founding of the association in 1939. What was once a modest event has soared to a 500,000 net-square-foot extravaganza of technology. See what's in store in this year's show.

Integrated Broadcast-Broadband Systems: From WebTV to Hybrid TV

In the wake of instant gratification provided by social media journalism, apps and streamed content, Hybrid TV seems like a natural next step in the ongoing symbiosis between broadcasting and broadband systems. Combining technologies simply makes sense when you factor in bandwidth expansion and the sheer practicality of reducing the number of devices you've been using simultaneously. Now you will be able to see a show and tweet about it from your TV. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Read more.

Success Comes From Interaction, Not Units

The economy is growing again and this is something to be extremely excited about as a professional of any kind. There are opportunities for sales and partnerships that people are willing to put a little more risk into than they have in the last few years. Josh Srago explains why your new marketing goal should not be to offer a single product solution but rather to drive constant customer interaction.

Three Reasons Ruggedness Matters

We require so much more of public displays than we do of our televisions. Commercial-grade digital signage displays must stand up to the demands of a 24x7 environment. They must have sophisticated mechanical designs and connectivity to allow for the management of signage networks. And they must also be rugged. Jennifer Davis lists three reasons why ruggedness matters and explains how to evaluate digital signage solutions for this characteristic.

Lights, Camera, Action on the Floor

As we entered the 21st century's teens, audio and video recordings of panel discussions, interviews on stage, and other types of events transitioned to digital files. But, what's radically different from the old days are the array of file format choices and the ways those recordings can now be delivered to attendees after the show. Read more.

InfoComm, Members, Lead Exceptional Experience Discussion at the Technology Convergence Conference

On Feb. 18, InfoComm Executive Director and CEO David Labuskes, CTS, RCDD, moderated the closing keynote panel at Teladata's Technology Convergence Conference, an event attended by more than 500 technology end users. Featured panelists included Andrew Milne, Ph.D., Executive Director of Tidebreak, Inc., and Alain J. InfoComm's two networking courses, Networking Technology Online and Networked Audio Visual Systems (NAVS), will begin a European Union tour on March 6 in Zevenaar, Netherlands, and will touch a total of six cities. A United Kingdom program with the same structure started on March 3 and will be available on two additional dates. The 12-date Australian program began in February and will be available through November in Sidney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Auckland.

Students will learn how to glean customer needs, manage trade-offs between quality and bandwidth, and work through the sometimes conflicting needs of customers and network managers. In the end, through better coordination among clients, IT professionals and AV designers, network-based AV systems can deliver the kind of communication experience that benefits everyone.
