In Memoriam: Michael Vergauwen

InfoComm International is sad to report that our Secretary/Treasurer, Michael Vergauwen, Executive Vice President and COO of AVI Systems, died in a drowning accident on June 28.

“Michael Vergauwen was a valued member of InfoComm’s Board of Directors and was a tireless advocate for the audiovisual industry. He offered wise counsel and was a good friend to so many of us in the InfoComm family,” said Jay Rogina, CTS, President, InfoComm International, and CEO of Spinitar. “He will be missed greatly, and we offer our sincere condolences to Michael’s family and friends.”

In memory of his career achievements, InfoComm’s foundation, the International Communications Industries Foundation (ICIF), will be setting up the Michael Vergauwen Education Fund. The fund will foster educational opportunities enhancing the audiovisual industry's’ service to the public through scholarships, curriculum development, community engagement and the promotion of careers in the AV field. InfoComm 09 — Biggest AV Show Ever Held on the East Coast

InfoComm 09, held June 17-19 in Orlando,FL, was the biggest commercial AV show ever held on the East Coast of the United States, with more than 29,000 AV professionals attending from more than 80 countries.

  • The ARCHI-TECH AV Awards honor exceptional audiovisual architectural projects. Winners

  • New Bay Media’s SCN Installation Product Awards honor outstanding install-specific products that were introduced in 2008. Awards for install-specific products were given in 15 categories. Winners

  • The Rental & Staging Systems Product Awards honor outstanding products that are specifically designed for the rental and staging market. Products were entered by equipment manufacturers exhibiting at InfoComm and the winners were decided on the basis of a readers' poll conducted by the magazine. Winners

Generosity Abounds at InfoComm 09

InfoComm International is pleased to announce that the winner of NEC’s Best of InfoComm Award , Da-Lite Screen Company, has designated InfoComm’s foundation, the International Communications Industries Foundation (ICIF), as the recipient of its $25,000 prize donation. In addition, Da-Lite has elected to match its prize winnings with an additional $25,000 donation to the ICIF.

“Da-Lite is honored to receive the first-ever NEC Best of InfoComm Award and congratulates the other finalists,” said Wendy Long, Vice President of Marketing, Da-Lite Screen Company. “It was only logical for us to donate our winnings to ICIF, which is dedicated to promoting industry education. Da-Lite is pleased to match its prize money with an additional $25,000 contribution to help develop the next generation of AV professionals.”

Call for Nominations

The annual election for open positions on the 2010 InfoComm Board of Directors and Leadership Development Committee will occur this fall. Nominations from the general membership for the following open positions are now being accepted:

InfoComm Board of Directors
Responsible for managing the affairs and strategy of the association, this group of eight directors and four officers meets via teleconference or in person six to eight times per year.

  • One Secretary/Treasurer serving a four-year ascending term as an officer.
  • Two Directors at large serving two-year terms.

InfoComm Leadership Development Committee
Responsible for the development of future leaders, volunteers, appointments, related events and nomination of candidates for election to InfoComm positions, this group of 10 members meets via teleconference or in person six to eight times per year.

  • One LDC member serving a three-year term.

For all positions, nominations from the general membership will be reviewed by the Leadership Development Committee and that committee has the responsibility for nominating candidates for election to InfoComm offices. Nominations will be accepted until August 1, 2009. The InfoComm International Board of Directors approved release of the association’s first performance standard, The Audio Coverage Uniformity (ACU) Performance Standard.“The ACU Standard was developed by InfoComm’s Standards Committee and the Audio Coverage Uniformity Working Group to improve the listening experience in a wide variety of audio installations,” said InfoComm International Executive Director, Randal A. InfoComm Salutes Kramer USA for Training AV Professionals

Kramer USA has helped more than 200 industry professionals prepare for the CTS exam in the past year. By licensing InfoComm’s Essentials of the AV Industry and CTS Study Group classes, Kramer has been able to offer both classes free of charge to industry partners, while also working to maintain their company’s AVSP Diamond Level Certification. Kramer USA augmented their program by also offering CTS renewal unit classes under the RU Provider program. Kramer USA has trained 750 industry pros for more than 6,750 hours on hot topics and leading edge technologies – helping students keep their skills honed and their certifications up-to-date.
