AV in the Government and Military Markets
AV consultants and integrators who are familiar with business practices in the corporate, education or house of worship markets may find themselves adrift when it comes to working with the U.S. government market. Working with the government or any branches of the U.S. military requires a significant commitment by the AV practitioner to learn the cultural differences and technical hurdles presented by this vertical market. Attend the STEP Rating System Webinar on Aug. 25
Register today for a free webinar at 1 p.m. EDT on August 25 on the Sustainable Technology Environment ProgramSM (STEP SM) rating system hosted by Scott Walker, LEED® AP, CTS-D and Chair of the AV Sustainability Rating System Task Force. The program, which is currently under development, is a set of benchmarks that can be applied to the technology aspects of a building. It is modeled after, and complementary to, the LEED rating system. Where the LEED system addresses the construction and infrastructure aspects of the building, the STEP system addresses the low-voltage systems.

InfoComm 2011 Call for Presenters Deadline Approaching!
The InfoComm Professional Education and Training Committee (PETC) invites you to submit your proposals for InfoComm Academy® education sessions at InfoComm 2011 in Orlando, FL. Education sessions will begin Saturday, June 11, and run through Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Orange County Convention Center. The Call for Presenters deadline is September 17, 2010. Submit your proposal today or visit www.infocommshow.org for additional information.

For information about InfoComm Academy sessions contact Bill Thomas.

Please note that InfoComm Academy sessions are intended to provide unbiased AV industry technical and business training and to remain vendor neutral. PETC requires there be no product specific sales pitches during your presentation, so that the course is not slanted toward any one manufacturer or service provider. Product-specific Manufacturers' Training session rooms are available for exhibitors through the InfoComm Expositions Department.

For further information about the Manufacturers' Training program, contact Laura Reed.

Design Track Classroom Courses
Is the CTS-D part of your professional development plans? The InfoComm Academy will be offering the design track in sequence starting in October and rounding out in January. Join us in Fairfax, VA, for DES212 AV Design Principles: Environment on October 24-26 immediately followed by DES213 AV Design Principles: Infrastructure on October 27-29. DES312 Applied AV Design will conclude the series January 23-25, 2011. To register for these classes, visit the InfoComm store.

Training Managers Determine InfoComm's 2011 Education Calendar
In years past, training managers indicated that classroom education is highly valued, but thoughtful scheduling of courses is critical.

So far InfoComm Academy has received anecdotal feedback on scheduling from training professionals, such as holding classes back-to-back to save on travel costs, scheduling weekend classes to save on travel costs with a Saturday night stay-over, and scheduling 6-day courses Saturday-Thursday rather than Sunday-Friday. Trainers also have indicated a preference for September and January as good months for training.

Find out how companies like yours can use standards for a business advantage. More
