The Value of an Organization's Vision
and Mission

By Bradley A. Malone, PMP, President, Twin Star Consulting Company
Many audiovisual integration companies start small, with three-to-five people filling a multitude of roles and performing many tasks. These roles and responsibilities often overlapped, so the founding members understood one another's jobs, and probably shared a common purpose, something like "do whatever it takes to make the customer happy and do really cool work while we're at it." That was their purpose — their reason for existence. It didn't have to be written down someplace — it was the truth that everyone knew and measured themselves against. More

Sustainable Technology Environment Program (STEP) Update
The AV Sustainability Rating System Task Force continues to make great strides in developing the Sustainable Technology Environment ProgramSM (STEP SM) rating system. This is a set of benchmarks that can be applied to the technology aspects of a building. It is modeled after, and complementary to, the LEED rating system. Where the LEED system addresses the construction and infrastructure aspects of the building, the STEP system addresses the low-voltage systems. The group is currently looking for feedback on the draft form of STEP on the Green AV SIG. They will meet face-to-face in Chicago on September 13-14 before entering the final phases of development, which will include a STEP reference guide that will accompany the rating system. The task force is still on target for finishing and launching STEP by January 1, 2011.

Please provide your input. View the STEP presentation and submit comments to InfoComm's Best Practices Manager, Rachel Peterson.

"In this tight economy, it is very important to stretch training dollars and with InfoComm's Wednesday Webinar series, I was able to do that. From the convenience of my own computer, I was able to attend educational one-hour programs AND receive Renewal Units towards my CTS. AND they were FREE!!! I applaud InfoComm for offering this service and highly recommend anyone needing CTS RUs to look into this. It's convenient; it's informative and best of all it's FREE. I know. I received ALL of my CTS RUs using this resource."

AV Week Tip #1: Request an AV Week Proclamation
Proclamations are special commemorative documents issued by state and local officials to raise public awareness and support for a particular issue, cause or initiative. AV Week is the perfect opportunity to request a proclamation from your state or other local official to call attention to the AV industry. Use the sample proclamation in the AV Week Planning Guide.
