A Message from Regional Director Andy Tan*Dear InfoComm Members, As part of its continuing commitment to developing the AV industry in Asia, InfoComm International® has broken new ground by staging further regional roundtables and announcing the schedule for five Academy Days to be held in the coming months. The most recent roundtables, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 17 March and in Jakarta, Indonesia two days later, gave local AV systems integrators and consultants an opportunity to debate some of the most important issues facing the industry, supporting InfoComm’s ongoing mission to give local members a say on the future direction of both the association and the markets it serves. In both locations, there was particular interest in InfoComm’s Global Market Definition and Strategy Study (MDSS), which was released earlier this year and concludes that Asia is the world’s second largest market for professional AV products and services, after the U.S. Among the key topics arising from this discussion were the growing role of China and India in driving industry demand, the implications of the convergence between AV and IT, and the growing awareness of the need for service provision as end-user demand for complete solutions increases. In total, more than 100 AV professionals have now attended roundtables in different Asian locations over the past six months, and this year’s forthcoming Academy Days are in Singapore (27 May), Hong Kong (20 August), Delhi (20 September), Mumbai (22 September) and Bangalore (24 September). By adding seminar-based education to the roundtable format, our Academy Days will allow us to penetrate deeper into the employee pool of local AV companies. Academy Days provide an inexpensive way for both members and non-members to acquire technical training with renewal units for InfoComm CTS certification, without spending too much time away from their regular work routine, and in a location that is easily accessible. The success of our tradeshow and roadshow activity in Asia is widely known, but these smaller education and networking events play an equally important role in reaching out to local AV communities. This is already proving to be an exciting year for InfoComm in Asia, and we believe our Academy Days will mark yet another important step forward in the evolution of the world’s most dynamic AV marketplace. Sincerely, *Andy Tan is Regional Director, Asia. Contact your regional director if you live in Australia. | |||
