Independent Programmers Council
MissionTo serve the needs and interests of control systems programmers who are not employed by hardware vendors or integrators. The Council seeks to raise the stature of Independent Programmers in the industry, provide collective feedback to vendors, define standards of practice and share professional resources.
Activities and Goals
Council will identify independent programmer business issues.
Subcommittees will address industry relations, membership criteria and standards of practice.
In 2007, the council will develop a survey to learn more about the independent programming industry.
Council collaborates with other Councils and Committees on such key projects as:
- Roadmap to Control - Creating best practices for device control protocol development and documentation, making programming easier and more reliable; the IPC is working with manufacturers on self-certification of Roadmap guidelines.
- Dashboard for Controls - Creating guidelines for touchpanel graphics and navigation to simplify the use of AV control systems; the IPC took ownership of this initiative from the Technology Managers Council and has become a driving force in its success.
- Intellectual Property Rights - Clarifying answers to the ever-present question: "Who owns the code?", the IPC is actively working on this extremely important topic by collaborating with other Councils to define issues, find common ground, and create solutions.
