Andrew Benton received his engineering degree at Cambridge University in England in 1976 and, shortly afterward, accepted a position at Kent Industrial Measurements in Cambridge. He was promoted to head of the Electronics Department in 1979 and moved to the United States in 1980 to work for General Electric. Three years later he accepted an engineering position at Unisys and, during his eight years at Unisys, received three awards including one of the highest: the Achievement Award for Excellence. In 1994, with two partners, Benton formed New Frontier Electronics, out of which grew SurgeX. He is also a full member of the Audio Engineering Society and a member of the AES Standards Committee Working Group on Electromagnetic Compatibility. His hobbies include hiking, cosmology, reading (non-fiction), natural history, alternative energy and target shooting.
