About the Session

If you've been to an AV industry conference, you've probably heard technologists opine about the future. And that's good; it's important to keep an eye on the trends that will affect your business. But how often do you hear experts affirm their predictions, adjust for change, or just plain second-guess themselves?

Join InfoComm International and industry professionals as they reevaluate year-old predictions and offer a fresh take on the technologies that will drive change in the years to come. Among the questions they’ll attempt to answer: Is there an 'estimated time of impact' for the Internet of Things in pro AV? Now that all displays are 4K, can we focus on 8K? What, they're not yet? What do tomorrow's collaboration spaces look like today? Will the cloud really take over the AV industry? If you don’t understand IPv6 and 5G wireless, is it too late? Bring your own questions or observations.

Day 3: 25 August

12:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m. | InfoComm MasterClass

Topic: AV/IT Security Needs Analysis

Presenter: Paul Zielie, CTS-D, CTS-I, Harman Professional

About the Session

Traditionally Audiovisual (AV) and Presentation technologies have been isolated from the Enterprise IT network. With the rise of unified communications, cloud applications, enterprise management, and as AV technology reaches further into the organization, AV installations can no longer be isolated from the enterprise network. As AV systems are being migrated onto enterprise data networks, user organizations expect the AV system to maintain a security posture in alignment with their security goals. In many cases these requirements may be more than a case of business best practices, but may be a matter of regulatory compliance. Security governance typically requires that any device attached to the network has the relevant security features and configuration. With this presentation, a detailed whitepaper and templates are provided (via download) which will allow the students to adopt the provided analysis framework into their own business practices.

This presentation will discuss:

  1. Understand the process, stakeholders, and tools used to determine and agree upon the security requirements of an AV installation
  2. Understand the tools and techniques to ensure those requirements are met
    • Mitigation Plan
    • Common security mitigations
  3. Understand how to include the outputs of this analysis in their RFPs, Proposals, Statements of Work, and Acceptance Criteria

    Topic: IoT and AV

Presenter: Gary Hall, CTO, Federal Defense, CISCO

    About the Session

The continued miniaturization of sensors and processors has fueled a massive explosion in the number of devices deployed around the world that can connect to the Internet or another network and interact with other devices. Machine-to-machine communication has reduced the need for human involvement in routine operations, allowing more to get done with less oversight. The capability to analyze data collected by myriad networked sensors provides valuable insights that further boost the benefits these technologies deliver. The combination of these capabilities has created great opportunities for the AV industry; our kick-off session will focus on the changes and digitalization that has been created by IoT.

    Day 2: 24 August

    2:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. (60 mins) | InfoComm Seminar

Topic: Converged Networks and What This Means to Pro-AV (AVB/TSN)

Presenter: Graeme Harrison, Executive Vice President, Biamp Systems

    About the Session

The pro-AV industry is currently evolving how we relate to and deliver on IT's needs and expectations around the network. This is why it's important to define the term 'converged network' and understand what this really means and how it impacts the pro‐AV industry; including what the effects are in how we design and implement networked AV solutions.

    11:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. | FlashTrack Session

Topic: Why Should AV Care about IoT?

Presenter: Graeme Harrison, Executive Vice President, Biamp Systems

    About the Session

The Internet of Things (IoT) has been a topic of discussion in IT for some time now, increasing in volume of late. Conversations are evolving from addressing IT infrastructure issues to discussions surrounding innovation and the possibilities IoT offers. This expansion of ideas and excitement in IoT has been fueled in part by the capabilities supported by IEEE open standards such as AVB/TSN, which provide for deterministic, low latency data transmission over Ethernet. The adoption of these standards and their application for IoT is receiving increased development and focus from companies outside of professional AV, including the automotive industry and industrial sector. Ultimately, the push toward IoT will encourage a significant growth in the adoption of the AVB/TSN standards, solidifying AVB/TSN as the standard of choice for a number of industries, including AV.

    Topic: Streaming Containers

Presenter: Paul Zielie, CTS-D, CTS-I, Manager of Enterprise Solutions, Harman Professional

    About the Session

A container is a metafile; a file that contains that can store multiple types of data in a structured format. A video container holds all the different files and data the player requires to play the video. This may include one or more audio channels, one or more videos, graphics files, metadata, and data files. Metadata id "data about data" it is a data structure that organizes information the player may need, including, but not limited to, timing information, window size, what codec(s) is being used, titles, program information, bookmarks, and closed captioning.

This presentation will explain the concept, function, and various types and uses of containers used in AV media streaming today. It will clear up the differences between container and codecs and help the student understand the underlying technology in delivering AV content.

Presenter: Mike Comiskey, Principal Audio Visual Consultant, AECOM

    About the Session

DISCAS (ANSI/InfoComm V202.01) has finally arrived. Our industry now has an international standard that properly defines image size and viewing angles, allowing us to move on from rules of thumb like 4/6/8.

The new standard provides a sound framework for the design of viewing environments, considering their intended use and the level of detail to be resolved. This framework also simplifies qualification of existing spaces to assist with better scheduling of resources.

This FlashTrack session will demystify DISCAS by helping attendees understand the basics of the framework. Those attending this short session should gain the confidence to start applying the standard for the benefit of their clients.
